Dr K. John Knowles
Dr John Knowles is a very experienced and knowledgeable General Practitioner who began his medical career in 1982. He is a graduate of The University of Melbourne, Australia’s oldest Medical School. During his undergraduate training, he took advantage of opportunities which allowed him to work in rural Australia such as in Warrnambool Base hospital, as well as overseas in Papua New Guinea. These exposures gave him great insight into the breadth of medical care while his experience in the prestigious city hospitals helped refine his knowledge of the sub-specialities of medicine. After graduating from university, Dr Knowles worked for many years at the Royal Melbourne Hospital, Royal Children’s Hospital and Mount Royal Hospital.
After gaining a broad range of experience, he discovered his love for general practice where he enjoys managing patients with a broad spectrum of conditions. Over the years, his passion for family medicine has been fed by the variety and different daily challenges general practice brings. He also finds the provision of long term care for individual and families immensely rewarding.
Dr Knowles is a member of professional organisations such as Australian Medical Association and he is an associate member of the Royal Australasian College of General Practice.
Outside of Medicine, Dr Knowles enjoys gardening, reading, travel and following the Carlton Football Club(an arduous task at present!)
Dr Knowles is fluent in English and works on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
Dr Kurukulasuriya Hiran Lalantha Fernando | MBBS, FRACGP
Dr Fernando is a warm and friendly doctor who’s one of the senior General Practitioners at our practice. His many years of medical experience began when he obtained his medical degree in 2002. He is a graduate of the University of Kelaniya in Sri Lanka and went onto to work for many years in Sri Lanka in a variety of hospitals such as Colombo Teaching Hospital, Chilaw General Hospital and Ragama General Hospital. These initial years at very busy hospitals with many patients with a wide variety of conditions formed a strong foundation of knowledge. He especially enjoyed with in the fields of General Medicine and Orthopaedics (the treatment of fractures and joint problems).
Dr Fernando emigrated to Australia where he continued to gain experience in many different hospital and clinic settings. While he enjoyed many aspects of medicine, General Practice was what really attracted him. He undertook his postgraduate training under the Royal Australian College of General Practice and became fully qualified as Fellow in 2014.
Dr Fernando has a special interest in skin cancer and is very passionate about prevention of this condition. He is very involved in performing mole checks using our state of the art machine, Dermdoc.
Dr Fernando is fluent in English and Singhalese and consults full time at our clinic.
Dr Fred Ng | MBBS, FAMAC
Dr Fred Ng is a general practitioner with many years of experience and prides himself in providing practical and astute care with a minimum of fuss .
He graduated from the University of Melbourne in 1976 and then worked at The Royal Melbourne Hospital, The Austin Hospital and The Royal Children’s Hospital .
He has been in general practice in Keilor Downs since 1981, adapting to the many transformations in this area, and is well known to many of the local residents.
After taking an interest in acupuncture and obtaining a fellowship from the Australian College of Acupuncture he has been offering this skill to his patients for over 30 years for a wide variety of conditions.
He enjoys helping patients understand their illness and treatment better, believing this to be the key in empowering them to manage their conditions better.
He is available on weekdays (except Wednesdays) and bulkbills pensioners and those with a Centrelink Healthcare card.
Dr Pushpika Namali Wijethilake | MBBS, MSc, MD, FRACGP
Dr Pushpika is a well regarded and highly qualified General Practitioner who is part of our team in Keilor Medical Clinic. She graduated from the University of Colombo in Sri Lanka with her medical degree many years ago. She has worked in rural and city hospitals in Sri Lanka such as the District Hospital in Walapane, the National Hospital in Colombo, Lady Ridgeway Hospital (tertiary children’s hospital in Sri Lanka and one of the biggest in the world), Family Health Bureau in Colombo, the Teaching hospital in Galle. She also worked for the Ministry of Health in Sri Lanka.
Dr Pushpika is very passionate about Community Medicine and the role it can play in improving the health of the population. She completed multiple postgraduate qualifications in this field starting with Master of Science in Community Medicine in 2001, followed by Doctor of Medicine in Community Medicine in 2008. Currently she is a Visiting Academic and Post-doctoral research fellow at the Alfred Centre and Monash University’s Department of Epidemiology and Preventative Medicine.
She is currently a Post-doctoral Research Fellow at the Alfred Hospital in the Department of Musculoskeletal Medicine and Rheumatology. Through this work she has published two research papers.
While she has an impressive academic record and research background, she loves nothing more than spending time with her patients to help them recover from their ailments and apply her knowledge in the day to day lives of people. What she enjoys most about General Practice is being able to improve the quality of care for her patients. Her special interest within General Practice is Geriatric Medicine which is the study of Medicine as it applies to elderly patients. She has also completed a Certificate in Clinical Occupational Medicine at the Monash University.
Outside work, Dr Pushpika enjoys music.
She is fluent in Sinhalese and English. She consults full time at our clinic.
Dr Arunan Devapriya | MBBS
Dr Devapriya is a friendly doctor with many years of medical experience. He graduated with his medical degree from Dr M.G.R Medical University in India in 1990. He completed his internship at Coimbatore Medical College before working in very rural areas of Kerala at Catholic Mission Hospitals, these areas weren’t even serviced by public buses. He then decided to move to Sri Lanka to gain further experience and training. He worked in many different hospitals and different departments. This included being a Senior Medical Officer in Women’s Health at Matale Base Hospital, Registrar in Paediatrics and Neonatal Intensive Care at Sri Jeyawardenepura Hospital from 1993 to 2001 as well as being in charge of Nawaloka Private Hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit till 2005.
After moving to Australia he explored other areas of Medicine. From 2008 to 2011 he worked at The Northern Hospital in a variety of departments such as Psychiatry, Obstetrics, Oncology, Night doctor for Medical and Surgical Wards. He worked at Bundoora Extended Care Centre in Geriatrics (care of elderly), Rehabilitation post stroke and other injuries, and Aged Psychiatry. He worked as a senior medical officer in Psychiatry with the Darebin Community Mental Health Unit.
Dr Arunan really enjoys the diversity of General Practice and the ability to treat people from all the different demographic groups. He also loves to apply his experience in Emergency Medicine to certain situations in General Practice.
Outside Medicine he has many interests. He is a keen sportsman who played cricken and table tennis for his medical college at state level. He also loves to draw portraits of famous people as well as being an avid reader with a large collection of books, especially autobiographies.

Dr Pavatharani Devapriya | MBBS
Dr Pavatharani Devapriya is a part time GP at our clinic who enjoys the multicultural working environment. She has been a doctor for 25 years and her special interests within General Practice are Women’s Health and Paediatrics (Children’s health).
Dr Devapriya is a knowledgeable and engaging doctor who completed her medical degree in MGR University in India in 1991. She enjoyed working in multiple Hospitals in Sri Lanka such as Apollo Hospital, Asiri Hospital and Nawaloka Hospital before emigrating to Australia where she has worked for many years in metropolitan and rural hospitals and clinics.
Apart from gaining extensive experience in Women’s health and Children’s health, Dr Devapriya also has a Diploma in Psychology which she completed in 2006. This allows her to provide specific care to those with mental illness as well as equips her to provide general counselling to those who may benefit from it.
Her interests outside medicine include reading, travelling and music. She is fluent in English, Tamil and Singhala.
Dr.Mathew Pittappillil | MBBS, FCGP and FRACGP(Australia)
Senior General Practitioner
Dr Pittappillil is a very valued member of our team who has over 40 years of experience in General Practice. He completed his medical degree and subsequently worked in multiple different community health organisations and hospitals including the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne. He loved working with families and being involved in their care over the long term so he undertook further training to complete his specialisation in General Practice. He holds both the FCGP and FRACGP(Australia).
Over his many years of practice as a Family Physician, Dr Pittappillil has developed many areas of special interest within General Practice such as Men’s Health, Children’s Health including management of allergies and Immunisation. In addition, he enjoys the challenges and rewards of working in partnership with his patients to treat their chronic medical conditions such as diabetes, asthma as well as mental health conditions which require ongoing counselling.
Dr Pittappillil is a very versatile doctor who can speak multiple languages such as English, Malayalam, Kannada, Hindi and Tamil!

Dr Jude Gerald | MBBS, FRACGP
Dr Gerald is a passionate doctor who has been working in General Practice in Australia and Sri Lanka for many years. He graduated from the University of Jaffna in Sri Lanka with his medical degree in 2002. He worked in General Practice in Sri Lanka for over 7 years. In addition to his work as a family physician, his career included working in the Sri Lankan capital Colombo at the National Hospital in Accident services and in operating theatres as a medical officer for anaesthesia.
He emigrated to Australia and continues to follow his passion for General Practice. What drives his passion is the way General Practice gives him the opportunity to gain knowledge through treating a large variety of patients in his day to day work which is further built upon by the continuum of study that has become part and partial of being a modern day doctor. His areas of special interest in General Practice are performing minor surgical procedures, Men’s Health, Sexual Health and Skin Cancer Medicine.
Dr Gerald’s interests outside of medicine include gardening, making arts and crafts and being involved in religious events.

Dr Rahul Naik | MBBS, FRACGP
Prasanka Siriwardane | Registered Nurse – Division 1
Prasanka is our kind and friendly nurse. She is a highly motivated and competent person who is committed to excellence in all aspects of her working life. She completed her Diploma in General Nursing from the College of Nursing in Galle in Sri Lanka in 1995. She has more than 13 years of experience as a Registered nurse in Sri Lanka in diverse clinical settings including rural, neurosurgical, orthopaedic and general surgical nursing.
After moving to Australia, she completed her Bachelor of Nursing in 2014 and completed further postgraduate training in immunization from the Australian College of Nursing in 2015. She has been part of our team at Keilor Medical Clinic for nearly a year now.
Prasanka has flourished in General Practice nursing because she enjoys holistic patient care. She reflects that, in general practice each day is different and there is always the thrill of never knowing who or what will walk through the door. She enjoys working in a large clinic because it allows her to practice a broad range of skills such as performing wound care, emergency care, patient education, ECG’s, spirometry, assisting with minor surgery, vaccination – childhood and travel, maintain cold chain requirements, ordering of stock, health assessments, asthma and diabetes cycle of care.
Outside work she enjoys reading, listening to music and enjoys being in natural surrounds. She is fluent in English and Sinhalese and works full time at our clinic.
